I am a Board Certified (NCCAOM) Acupuncturist, licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
After receiving my first acupuncture treatment in 1989, I experienced a steady improvement in my symptoms. I also felt calmer, happier, and more aware. I was so fascinated by these changes that I began to learn everything I could about the underlying philosophy of Chinese Medicine. I discovered that the Chinese view of health and healing made a lot of sense, and matched my own observations.
I began acupuncture school in 1992 at The Traditional Acupuncture Institute, now MUIH. In 1995 I became the fourth Licensed Acupuncturist in Virginia and I’ve been in private practice here in Northern Virginia ever since. I love what I do. I’ve seen people get relief after years of pain, people conceive after years of infertility, clients find new strength in the face of chronic illness, and peace when life is difficult.
Many styles of acupuncture have developed in the thousands of years since it became a medical tradition. My original teachers taught from the Five Element Tradition, brought to the west via J.R. Worsley. This tradition uses elements in nature as metaphors for particular movements of qi that affect our body, mind, and spirit, and treats on a deep constitutional level. I have also extensively studied the Eight Principle Tradition, also part of Traditional Chinese Medicine. I am very pleased to use the wisdom of these traditions, as well as the wisdom of several other lineages, in my practice. A list of the modalities I incorporate into my treatments can be seen here.
